Rape is not a sex crime, but a crime of violence. It is an act of power and control, in which the victim is humiliated, degraded, and left with feelings of shame, self-blame and anger. If you say “no” and the assault continues it is rape!

What to do if you are raped:
1. SAFETY: go to a place you feel safe; friends, home, REAL Crisis Center.
2. MEDICAL: Seek medical attention immediately for possible internal injuries and STD treatment. Evidence collection is available at the Emergency Department.
3. Don’t bathe, change clothes, urinate, drink or eat before evidence collection if possible.
4. LEGAL: Contact law enforcement (reporting does not mean you must prosecute).
5. SUPPORT: Call REAL Crisis Center (24 hours Crisis Center).
6. Remember that it’s NOT your fault.
